 ANNUAL REPORT 2017- 2018

It gives me immense pleasure and pride to present before you the Annual Report of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor for the year 2017-2018.  
Excellence in academics is the hallmark of any good institution and class X and XII results of our School prove without any doubt that our students have made us proud.
  • 100% result was secured by our seventeenth batch of STD XII students in AISSCE 2017. 176 students appeared for the examination and 29 students secured A1 in all subjects. Poornesh S Babu was the topper in the Science Stream with 97.4% and Sharmada R Nair was the topper in the Commerce Stream with 97.6% of marks. Poornesh S Babu and Albrite Ben secured 100 marks in Computer Science. I am proud to add that Poornesh S Babu is the fifth topper in the Science stream among all Bhavan’s schools in India.
  • 100% results were secured by the students of Std X. 109 students appeared for the board examination and 55 students appeared for the school based examination of Std X. 54 students secured A1 in all subjects. 
This year we have 149students of STD XII and 187 students of STD X appearing for the AISSCE & AISSE respectively. Our prayers and blessings are with them.
At present our student strength is 2397. Our family comprises of a dedicated team of 96 teaching staff and 20 non- teaching staff.
Achievements to Cherish in 2017-‘18
  • Sri E Rajesh Menon, from the Department of Science was conferred with a doctorate in Hindi from Post Graduate & Research Centre,DakshinBharati Hindi PracharSabha, Chennai. He has received an award for the Best Grow Bag farming practices and secured first place for a story writing competition organised by Coconut Development Board.
  • Our students Poornima K and Vidya Ramachandran of Std X and Hima K H and Karthik Radhakrishnan of Std XI emerged winners in their exhibits under the theme ‘Innovations for Sustainable Development’ at the Regional CBSE Science Exhibition held at Toc-H Public School. They will be representing the school in the National Level CBSE Science Exhibition to be held in the month of February 2018.
  • In the LIONS Athletic Meet 2017 our school emerged winners with a cash of prize ten thousand rupees.
  • In the K KPremachandran Memorial 41stErnakulam District Mini Athletics Championship, our school won the overall championship trophy consecutively for the third time. 
  • In the Ernakulam District Central School Sports Meet conducted by District Sports Council, our school won the first runner up trophy. 
  • In the CBSE National Athletic Meet 2017, Bhavika V S of Std X won second in 200 m race and third in 100 m race and our school won the third prize in Under 14 Girls 4x100 m relay.
  • In the XXII CBSE Cluster XI Athletic Championship 2017, Bhavika V S was selected as the Best Athlete.  The school won the Over-all Championship in the under 14 girls’category, first runners up in the under 17 category and overall 7th position.
  • In the All Kerala Inter School Karate Championship, our school won the first runners up trophy with 89 points.
  • LEMUBEST 2017, an Inter-school music fest was held in the school. Around 11 schools in and around Kochi participated in this grand event. 
  • Our School won the most coveted 35th Dr K M Munshi Memorial Inter-school Athletic Meet Ever-rolling Trophy.
  • Anjana Menon, Alicia Anna Abraham, Arjun R, Ashtamoorthy C and Sreya S Menon of Std XII were awarded the certificate of excellence, organised by Kerala Commerce Forum in association with LOGIC School of management, for being the school toppers in 11th standard Commerce in the year 2016-’17. 
  •      Siddharth Ranjith and Uday Paul George of Std VIII won the WWF Quiz Trophy and are qualified for the National Level Competition.
  • Paul Philp Mathew and Dev Raj R of Std X secured the following prizes
                1.first in the Shaastra Spark Quiz conducted by IIT Madras.
                2.third in Aqua Regia Quiz conducted by TIME.
  • Paul P Mathew won the second prize in Mathematics Quiz conducted by CUSAT.
  • Sreelakshmi Vijay and Devika S Menon of Std X won the 2nd prize in the Onam Cultural Quiz conducted by Ernakulam Karayogam.
  • Anurag Vinodkumar and Dev Raj R secured the following prizes
              1.first prize in quiz in the Inter School Digital Fest.
              2.third prize in the Science Quiz organized by NIT Calicut.
  • C M Madhava Prabhu and Hemanth R of Std XI won the third prize in Tantra 2K17 Quiz competition.
  • C M Meenakshi Prabhu and John P Mathew of secured third prize in EnguiZard’ 2017 in the Sub Junior category.
  • Siddharth Ranjit of Std VIII and Sreejith K S of Std IX secured 3rd position in the Marine Quiz conducted by MPEDA. 
  • First Prize in Science Fiction and second in Science Quiz conducted by Vidyodaya.
  • Sheethal Shoby of Std IX won the following prizes 
           1.first prize with a cash prize of Rs 25000 in the painting competition Funbrella organized by Executive  Event. 
           2.1st prize with a cash prize of Rs 5000 and a trophy, in Times Colour Splash- a painting competition  conducted by the Times Of India.
           3.awarded the certificate of merit for excellence in painting and reaching National Finals (Top 100) in      senior category of Sakshan National Painting Competition 2017.
  • Kalyani Prasad and  Aarcha A S of Std X won the first prize in Poster Making competition and Paul P Mathew and Dev Raj R won the first prize in the Quiz Competition  held in connection with Celebrating Kalam 2K17 organized by CUSAT .
  • Nandana K U of Std VI won the first prize in the painting competition held in Fine Arts Hall.
  • In the painting competition conducted in connection with Athaghosham, Gayathri Roopesh of Std IV secured the first prize in pencil drawing and second prize in painting and Nandana K U of Std VI won second prize in pencil drawing.
  • In the Art & Craft competition Rendere2017, Hima H of Std XI, Gouri Shankari of Std VI and Diya Manoj of Std VII won second prize in various events.   
  • In the RAM 2017 Athletic Meet, organised by Rotary Greater Cochin, Elna Elizabeth Praveen won gold in 100 m race, silver in 50 m race and bronze in Long Jump.
  • Pranav A Kamath of Std VII D secured first with Black Belt in Kumite& Kata in the Inter Dojo Championship 2017, organized by Nakayama Shotokan Karate – Do India.
  • Kashinath S Menon of Std VI secured first with Black Belt   in Kumite& Kata   in the 5thShorai Shotokan Karate Inter Dojo Tournament 2017 and the Ernakulam District Karate-Do Association organized by Kerala Karate Association. 
  • In the Ernakulam District Badminton Shuttle Championship 2017, K Kadambari of Std X secured the gold medal in Seniors Mixed Doubles, silver in Juniors (under 19) Doubles and bronze in Under 17 Girls Doubles.                              
  • Midhun Krishna of Std VI won the second place in Individual Kata (1-6 boys ) category in the YMCA District Karate Tournament 2017.
  • In the All Kerala Inter Bhavan’s Games JanakiMenon of Std VII won first prize in Roller Skating.Nandan Prakash won first in Table Tennis Singles.
  • Our school won the 16th CBSE Kho-Kho Championship and participated at the National level.
  • In XII All Kerala Inter-school PNB-Varuna Chess Tournament, our school has won the second runners up trophy.
  • In the Ernakulum District Athletic Meet 2017, Bhavika V S of Std X won silver in100 & 200 mts.Boys (under 14)team won second in 4x100 mts relay and Girls (under14) won third in 4x100 mtsrelay.                         
  • Manu Sebastian, Joel P Joy of Std XI and Adhil James Shaji of Std XII won the second postion in the XIV Archbishop Joseph Attipetty Memorial All Kerala Inter-school Shuttle Badminton Tournament 2017-’18 in the Under 19 Boys category.
  • Bhavika V S, team member of Kerala Junior Athletic Team, participated and won the fifth position in 200 m race in the All India Junior Athletic Meet held at Vijayawada.
Co-Scholastic activities:
Students’ love for one’s own principles, humanity, world peace, patriotism etc are nurtured by celebrating Ramayana week, Onam, Christmas, Muharram, Children’s Day, World Environment Day, Independence Day, Republic Day, Hiroshima Day, Quit India Day, Sanskrit Day, Human Rights Day etc., lending colour and vibrancy to school life. It fills my heart with joy to inform you that our students have excelled not only in academics but have won laurels for the school in the fields of art, culture and sports.
1)The students of our school won several prizes in the inter-school competitions, EnguiZard’ 2017, BUNENTANZ 2017- an inter-school dance competition, Rendere 2017, Sahitheeyam 2017- the literary competition etc.
2) In the All Kerala CBSE Kalotsav, our students came out with flying colours both in the Zonal and State level competition.
3)Anagha P of Standard XI secured 3rd position in the extempore competition held at Toc-H School, Vyttila.
4)Our school won second prize in Patriotic Song Competition in Umang 2017 conducted by Vidyodaya School, Thevakkal.
5)Adithya Rameshkumar P ofStd IX has been selected to the State Junior Cricket Team.
National Cadet Corps 
We are proud to announce that the fourth year of our senior division of NCC is functioning with the same vigour and enthusiasm.
  • Lt Shiby Chacko successfully completed a 3 months’ Pre Commission Course in NCC at Nagpur and he has been commissioned as Associate NCC Officer. He had also attended Army Attachment Camp held at Pangode, Thiruvananthapuram and NCC Camp at Warangal.
  • At present our NCC Wing has 54 Senior Division cadets , among them 22 cadets attended different training camps and are eligible to appear for B certificate exam which is scheduled in February 2018. 
Our school library is a store house of knowledge which provides the students an ideal environment to develop their reading habits. 150 books have been added to the library this year.
New Initiatives
  • The discipline committee that was constituted to look into the overall discipline of the school continues to be active. 
  • A housekeeping and welfare committee was formed to look into the hygiene of the entire school.
  • Book Fair was conducted in the school premises by DC Books & Scholastic Book Club.
Edu Sports
Training sessions to maintain a healthy and fit physique for the students of the K G & the Primary sections, continues under the able guidance of the Edu Sport personnel.  
Open House
We hold open house and class wise meetings every year which help create a strong rapport between parents and teachers.
Resource Room and Counselling
The Resource Room is an initiative to provide guidance to students who need special care and attention. Well-trained counsellor and teachers help the student with their emotional, psychological and educational needs. 
Teacher support through professional development programme
The Principal, Vice Principal and all subject teachers attended workshops in their respective subjects conducted by the CBSE and various organizations on teaching methodology.
Shikshan Bharati Evaluation in the scholastic and co-scholastic areas was conducted under the able guidance of Smt Nithya Gopalakrishnan, Education Officer, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra.
School Infrastructure
Our school was given a face-lift through various infrastructural changes:
  • The school canteen received a facelift with the installation of new gas stove, chimney, racks and plates. It has been extended with a separate seating area for the primary section.
  • On this occasion, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to the management for fulfilling our long cherished dream of having an open air auditorium, where we are now able to conduct all our programmes smoothly.
  • A 7 seater vehicle has been procured for the school through the joint sponsorship of the Management and the PTA 2016-’17. 
CBSE Initiative 
  • The school was the examination centre for AISSCE & AISSE 2016-17 examinations and evaluation in the subjects of Chemistry and Malayalam.
  • The students participated in CBSE expression series on Dr A P J Abdul Kalam.
Cultural  Outreach Programme
  • Cultural Outreach Programme initiated by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra in collaboration with Spic Macay organized a lecture demonstration cum performance by the renowned exponent of Indian Classical Guitar and Vocal Music, Vidushi Dr Kamala Shankar on 20th September..
  • Our students got an opportunity to be a part of Putul Yatra-Kerala, A Festival of Indian Puppetry organised by Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi in collaboration with Kerala Fine Arts Society, Ernakulam.
Student Empowerment Programme
The students of our school attended the following Empowerment Programmes
  • a talk on World Blood Donation Day.
  • a session on ‘Drug Abuse and Trafficking’.
  • a session on Career Guidance for commerce students at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi.
  • a Student Protection Group was formed to spread awareness on drug abuse and trafficking with the co-operation of PTA , representatives of auto drivers, school bus drivers and shopkeepers in the vicinity.
  • Cyber club was formed. 
  • a speech to raise awareness about the urgent need to protect rivers .
  • Science stream students of Std XII attended a demonstration class on Entrance Oriented questions.
  • an orientation programme by Ms Prakriti Sharma from World View Organization, organized by MUN.
  • in the Harward Model United Nations India 2017 Conference (7th session) six  students from Std X & XI, represented ANGOLA in various committees.
  • ‘Knowledge Spill Over’, a Commerce Quiz was conducted by Sreeram, a former student of BVM Eroor. Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya, Thrikkakara emerged as the winners. 
  • a session on CONSERVE- best practices for handling plastics.
  • a nature study tour to Illikkal Kallu for Std XII.
  • 18 students attended ‘Nature Turks’ an experiential learning platform for students organised by World View at Hyderabad.
  • 8 students attended the camp ‘Quit India’ organised by Vidyodaya  School, Thevakkal.
  • an awareness class on the topic “Health and Hygiene”. 
  • 100 students from Std IX & XI attended an Orientation Programme on Trauma and Emergency Care, “Samaritan”, a joint initiative by Rotary Club, Lakshore Hospital and Kochi City Police.
Student Exchange Programme
The team from Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Faversham, Kent,U K, comprising  24 students and 3 teachers visited the school as part of the Programme For Educational And Cultural Exchange(PEACE). They arrived on 13 October and spent two weeks with the host families. They visited various tourist destinations and places of historical importance. Our students and teachers who hosted them will be visiting UK in the next academic year.
Newspaper In Education (NIE)
The Hindu NIE (Newspaper In Education) programme was inaugurated by Sri P Vijayan, IPS, Inspector General, Kochi Range. This programme is conducted for the students of Std VIII ,IX& X under  the auspices of the Hindu and for the students of Std VI &VII, The Times of India. 
Health checkup
“Health is hearty, health is harmony, health is happiness”, upholding this statement, we conduct health check up every year for the students of classes I – XII to ensure good health and hygiene among students. Measles and Rubella Vaccine was given to students from classes I to X. 
Social Consciousness
Our school not only gives importance to academics but also encourages the students to respond to the needs and sufferings of others. We gave financial assistance & medicines to Sree Poornathrayesa Old Age Home, Puthiyakkavu, monthly provisions &medicines to a few needy families and learning materials to a few students. We actively participate in the Palliative Care Program undertaken by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi.
 Parent Teacher Association
The PTA, functioning efficiently under the able guidance of the PTA President, Sri R V Vasudevan, is indeed a pillar of support. PTA meetings are held at regular intervals to review the activities and seek parents’ participation and feedback.
            The activities undertaken by them were:
  • Payment of the Annual fees of two students. 
  • Played a crucial role in regulating the traffic in the school hours.
  • Sponsored track suits for the students who participated in the CBSE National Athletic Meet.
  • Refreshment was arranged for students practising for sports and games
  • Sponsored 100 plastic chairs of good quality for our Audio Visual Room.
  • Counselling sessions were arranged for the parents of the students of Std I to V by Sri Sreejith and Dr Girija. 
  • As part of Kerala Piravi celebration, PTA organised a 'Panchaarimelam', lecture cum demonstration by the Drums Maestro Padma Shri Sri Mattannoor Sankarankutty and his group in the school.
Many milestones have been achieved and many still have to be reached. We, at BVM, Eroor, will continue our unceasing efforts to mould the young minds into well balanced personalities with confidence and zeal befitting the standards of this portal of education.
On this memorable occasion, let me express my deep appreciation to the untiring efforts of a committed team, the teaching and non- teaching staff of our school. I take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to the Chairman, Director and the management of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Shri. Appukuttan, Chairman, SMC, Shri.R.V.Vasudevan, PTA President, Members of the Executive Committee of the PTA Parents and all well-wishers. I also bow my head in obeisance to Lord Almighty for showering such abundant blessings upon us.
